Kindergarten Morning Kits

Note: This post was previously published under the name “Kindergarten Morning Activities”, but I’ve since renamed them as “Morning Kits”. The activities and supplies needed are the same!

During the summer of 2020, it became clear that traditional morning tubs were not going to be an option for many teachers that school year for a variety of reasons. I created sets of morning activities that used individual supply kits and printable activities, thus eliminating the need for shared materials.

Now that we’re starting to move back to “normal”, I re-evaluated the morning activities and, after reading feedback from dozens of teachers, I realized that these activities would be really beneficial in a typical school year, too!

As a result, I’ve officially re-titled the morning activities I created last year as Morning Kits and I’m really excited to share a little more about them today! The great news is that if you used the morning activities last year, the activities are the same, PLUS I’ve even added some new activities!

What is a Morning Kit?

My Morning Kit activities are printable and require basically no prep by you. They don’t need to be laminated and there are no little pieces to cut out. To complete the activities, students use their own individual supply kit. The supply kit includes common classroom materials and are stored in a pencil box.

What types of activities are included?

The activities cover kindergarten skills and many incorporate fine motor practice. They increase in difficulty throughout the year, similar to my morning tubs. However, my goal is always student independence. One of the most important things about any morning activity is that it’s not introducing a new skill and is at a level the student is comfortable with.

How do these work?

The three main components of these activities are supply kits, the activities, and the instruction slides.

Each day, you’ll pick an activity and make the copies needed. Place them at students’ tables or desks. Project the instruction slide in the front of the classroom. Then, each student will have an already-made supply kit for morning activities.

What supplies do I need?

Here’s a list of the supplies needed. These stay in each individual student’s supply kit.

Pencil Boxes (or pouches like these may work, too)
A Pencil
Crayons
Mini Plastic Jars
Beads
Glue Sticks
Scissors
Color Dice
Mini Erasers
Regular Dice OR Foam Dice
Playdough

In addition to those supplies, you’ll need the following materials to hand out as needed. These are not stored in the supply kits.
Dot Stickers
Construction Paper

The Morning Kit activities only use the supplies in these kits. The supplies may occasionally need replenishing (i.e. the crayons and glue) but my hope is that, for the most part, these won’t need much attention through the year.

Where can I get the activities?

I have the Morning Kit activities available in individual monthly packs and in a discounted bundle!

There are activities for months August through April. The May pack will be added by 12/31/2021.
