Description

This retell cube is a fun and quick way to assess your students’ story comprehension! It works great for small groups. To use, simply have students take turns rolling the cube and answering the prompt they rolled. Simple prompts are supported with pictures. Here are the prompts, along with questions you may ask:

1. Characters (Who are the characters?)
2. Setting (What was the setting?)
3. Beginning (What happened at the beginning?)
4. Middle (What happened in the middle of the story?)
5. End (What happened at the end?)
6. Reality/Fantasy (Was this story reality or fantasy? How do you know?)

These are just basic prompts that can lead into deeper discussions about comprehension. However, they are great “as-is” for emergent and early readers who are still learning about comprehension.

This product was designed for kindergarten or early 1st grade.
