Tips for Differentiating Writing in Kindergarten

  • For students who are still working on fine motor skills, encourage them to start with drawing their ideas and add simple labels or words.
  • For the majority of the kindergarten year, I provide a sentence starter prompt. I find that kindergarteners often get stuck getting started without a prompt! Practice and repetition helps!
  • For those ready to write more, they can work on adding multiple sentences or expanding their stories across multiple pages.
