My Favorite Turkey Crafts for Thanksgiving

If you’re searching for the perfect turkey craft for your kindergarten classroom this Thanksgiving, you’re in the right place! Kindergarteners love bringing seasonal characters to life, and turkey crafts are the perfect way to blend creativity with simple writing and sharing about gratitude. Today I’m sharing a few of my favorite classroom-friendly turkey craft ideas along with a few helpful tools that pair perfectly with your Thanksgiving lessons.

Before jumping into the turkey craft, I find it helpful to build a little background knowledge with a Thanksgiving or gratitude-themed read-aloud. For example, if you’re doing an activity about thankfulness, a read aloud can help start a discussion about what it means to be thankful. It also gives them language they can use later when writing on their turkey feathers. Or, you can read about a silly turkey or find out some turkey facts!

If you’re looking for some classroom-friendly titles, I put together a list of my favorite Thanksgiving read-alouds, including books that focus on gratitude, in my Thanksgiving Read Alouds blog post. Reading one of these stories first gives students ideas to draw from and helps the craft feel even more meaningful.

After your read-aloud discussion, your students will be ready to jump into their turkey crafts with plenty of ideas and inspiration!

This turkey craft has been one of my go-to Thanksgiving activities for more than a decade! Students can use a graphic organizer as a brainstorming tool before creating the turkey craft. This is optional, but I like to complete the graphic organizer one day, and then begin the turkey craft the next day.

Assembly is really straightforward. Students will color and cut out the pieces. Once the turkey is assembled, students will write or draw something they are thankful for on each turkey feather.

This craft is really similar to my other turkey craft. It also includes a planning page to help students brainstorm ideas. The biggest difference is that it’s perfectly sized to be glued onto a 12”x18” piece of construction paper. Laminate them and send them home – families love these Thanksgiving keepsakes!
