October is pumpkin season, and that makes it the perfect time to add some fun pumpkin activities to your kindergarten classroom. Pumpkins fit naturally into reading, math, science, and fine motor work, so they’re an easy way to bring seasonal fun while still covering important skills. Today, I’m rounding up some of my favorite pumpkin activities and resources that are ready to use with your students this week!
1. Pumpkin Read Alouds
One of the best ways to kick off a pumpkin theme is with books! Read alouds help introduce new vocabulary and build background knowledge for any other pumpkin activities you’re planning to do.

I put together a list of my favorite books in this blog post. From counting books to stories with beloved characters, you’ll find plenty of options to use throughout your pumpkin unit!
2. Pumpkin Life Cycle Activities
Pumpkin life cycle activities are a great way to weave science into your October lesson plans. Students love learning about how a pumpkin grows from a tiny seed into a big, round pumpkin!
A great way to introduce the pumpkin life cycle is with a read aloud. I have a few linked in the pumpkin read alouds blog post I mentioned above.

If you’re looking for print-and-go options, check out my Pumpkin Life Cycle pack! It has several activities to choose from, like a crown, a flip-up book, and even sequencing cards to use with your whole group lessons.

3. Pumpkin Craft for Counting to 10
Nothing says fall quite like a pumpkin craft! This pumpkin craft combines pumpkin fun with a little math practice. Students will use the simple templates to create a pumpkin and add seeds, all while practicing one to one correspondence and fine motor skills like cutting and gluing.

This craft also makes a wonderful bulletin board display for October! Your classroom will be ready for fall while showing off your students’ work.
4. Pumpkin Fine Motor Activities
If your students need more fine motor practice, they’ll love these pumpkin fine motor activities!

Several fine motor tasks are included in this pack, including:
- Paper tearing
- Cutting and gluing
- Tweezing
- Linking
- Tracing

These activities strengthen hand muscles and hand-eye coordination. They’re simple to add to morning tubs, centers, or small groups.
5. Pumpkin-Themed Skill Practice
If you need lower-prep activities, my Pumpkin No-Prep Printables Pack includes a variety of math and literacy pages that have a pumpkin theme. Since everything just needs printed, you can print and use the activities right away. They’re perfect for busy October days, and there are enough pages to last the whole month!

Enjoy These Pumpkin Activities This Fall!
Pumpkins are a fun and versatile theme for fall. Whether you’re reading pumpkin books, teaching the pumpkin life cycle, or adding pumpkin crafts and printables to your centers, these pumpkin activities will make October memorable for your students.
