Ten Little Pumpkins by Rosie Greening
Countdown books are always a hit with young students due to their fun and predictive nature! This book starts with ten pumpkins and tells a fun story with adorable illustrations. Plus, the front cover has flippy sequins, so you know it will be a hit in your classroom library!
Seed, Sprout, Pumpkin, Pie by Jill Esbaum
This nonfiction book weaves the pumpkin life cycle throughout the pages. It has great photos that will capture your students’ interest. It’s great for discussions about family activities with pumpkins or before completing pumpkin life cycle activities!
How Big Could Your Pumpkin Grow? by Wendell Minor
This must-read takes us through an imaginative journey to different locations around the United States. The author uses a variety of descriptive words that are great for building vocabulary.
Pumpkin Day! by Candice Ransom
This is a quick read about a family’s trip to a pumpkin patch. Your students will love listening for the rhyming words and seeing the wonderfully detailed illustrations.
The Berenstain Bears and the Prize Pumpkin by Stan & Jan Berenstain
I love classics like the Berenstain Bears series. This story mentions Thanksgiving so it’s a great one to read after Halloween! Your students will love Papa Bear’s antics as he tries to grow a prize-winning pumpkin.
It’s Pumpkin Day, Mouse! by Laura Numeroff
Children LOVE Mouse from If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, and they’re sure to love seeing how Mouse paints the different pumpkins in this charming story.
From Seed to Pumpkin by Wendy Pfeffer
This is another great nonfiction book. I love the detailed illustrations and it gives lots of information about the entire life cycle of a pumpkin.
Splat the Cat and the Pumpkin Picking Plan by Catherine Hapka
Splat the Cat is another favorite character, and your students will find it hard to stop giggling at this story! It also has descriptions of different types of pumpkins and the experiences Splat has at the pumpkin patch.
The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin by Joe Troiano
This story has a wonderful message and it’s always a favorite read aloud. Definitely grab a copy if you don’t have this one yet!
The Biggest Pumpkin Ever by Steven Kroll
This is a cute story about two mice who are taking care of the same pumpkin without realizing it! Be sure to also check out The Biggest Apple Ever and The Biggest Snowman Ever.
Pete the Cat: Five Little Pumpkins by James Dean
“Five Little Pumpkins” is a classic pumpkin poem, and your students will love this Pete the Cat version!
