Fall is probably my favorite season in the classroom. There are so many different themes and topics to teach, from apples to leaves to pumpkins and more! Leaf read alouds and leaves in general are a great way to incorporate a little science-based fun.
Leaves are a fun classroom topic because you can talk about so many different things – colors, seasons, trees, etc. I always incorporate lots of read alouds and leaves are no different. Since there are so many great books out there, I put together a list of ten of my favorite books to read when we’re talking about leaves in the classroom.
1. Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert
2. There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves by Lucille Colandro
3. We’re Going on a Leaf Hunt by Steve Metzger
4. Awesome Autumn by Bruce Goldstone
5. A Very Big Fall by Emmy Kastner
6. How Do You Know It’s Fall? by Lisa M. Herrington
7. Fletcher and the Falling Leaves by Julia Rawlinson
8. Because of an Acorn by Lola M. Schaefer
9. Why Do Leaves Change Color? by Betsy Maestro
10. Leaves by Vijaya Khisty Bodach
Students could even make their own book! My Colorful Leaves Mini Book is a simple color activity. Your students will certainly feel proud of their ability to color and trace the color words! Click on the image to see the mini book in my store.
