October is such an exciting month in kindergarten! Between pumpkins, costumes, and candy corn, students are full of energy, and as teachers, we’re looking for ways to channel that energy into meaningful practice. I’ve said to my students before, “Even though things feel crazy right now, we still HAVE to learn something!” In October, Halloween worksheets are a great option because they’re simple to prep, fun for students, and still target the important skills your kindergarteners need this time of year.
I’ve put together a few different Halloween packs that you can use in your classroom this month. Each one provides a different way for students to learn and practice while celebrating the season.
1. Halloween Skill Practice Pages
These Halloween skill practice pages cover a variety of kindergarten skills, from letters and sounds to number recognition, counting, rhyming, and much more. They’re print-and-go, which makes them perfect for morning work, independent practice, or early finishers. The Halloween themes keep kids motivated while still focusing on the skills you’re teaching.

2. Halloween Directed Drawing Pages
If you’ve ever tried directed drawing with your students, you know how much they love it! This set of Halloween worksheets are directed drawings that walk students through step-by-step drawing prompts like bats, spiders, and ghosts.
I have two versions of these pages, because differentiation is important! The Draw, Trace, and Write Pages have the directed drawing plus a word to trace and write.

The Draw and Write Pages are a little more advanced. Instead of a word to trace and write, there’s space for students to write. This could be a sentence starter that you provide or have students write their own sentence.

I love these Halloween directed drawings! They’re such a fun way to build confidence in both drawing and early writing skills, and students are always so proud of their finished pages.
3. Halloween Color by Number
This Halloween color by number pack combines math practice with following directions. Students color Halloween-themed pictures based on the code provided. They’re deliberately simple, using only numbers 1-10, to allow young students to have a sense of accomplishment. They’re good for reinforcing number recognition and again, basic direction following!

Why Are Halloween Worksheets Helpful in October?
I like to use a combination of worksheets and hands-on activities, and both are useful in their own ways! While my centers and groups are more hands on, independent practice usually works best with high-quality printables. Here are a few other reasons why worksheets are extra helpful in October:
- They’re quick to prep – just print and you’re ready to use.
- They fit into any part of the day: morning tubs, small groups, independent practice, or even early finisher activities.
- They let students celebrate Halloween while still learning.
- They help you keep your classroom routines consistent, even during the often crazy month of October!
If you’re ready to add a little Halloween fun to your classroom this fall, check out these three packs in my store. With skill practice pages, directed drawing, and color by number, you’ll have a variety of Halloween worksheets to keep your kindergartners learning and smiling all October long!
